Saskia Tingey
Saskia grew up in Sonoma County, California, the daughter of a brewery owner/fermentation mad scientist. At eighteen she moved to Italy to study writing and Italian, only to be so distracted by Italian food and wine, she decided to make a career out of it. After an undergraduate degree in food science, Saskia began a series of apprenticeships in New Zealand and California, eventually returning to Italy for a program in viticulture and a harvest apprenticeship at Agricola Foradori in Trentino. Saskia now works as an Assistant Viticulturist in Geyserville, California, supervising mainly all-female crews and managing all regenerative agriculture-focused certifications for clients. She will begin the Viticulture and Enology Master’s program at UC Davis this fall, planning to focus on regenerative winegrowing systems.
“I am so grateful to be a recipient of this scholarship and to continue to study with and work for incredible women in viticulture. This scholarship gives me the opportunity to focus on my studies, advance my career in viticulture and eventually provide support to other women in the industry.”
