Victoria Chavez (formally Roberts)
Only a few more months and I will have my Master of Science in Viticulture & Enology. This has been the culmination of a dream six years in the making. After a year of deliberation, I quit my career as an engineer in the energy industry to pursue my love for wine. Once accepted to the master’s program in Viticulture & Enology at the University of California Davis, I worked tirelessly in my classes to learn as much as I could to prepare me for a successful winemaking career. Through the master’s program, I will be working at Domaine Leflaive this fall and look forward to putting what I have learned into practice, learning even more from the talented biodynamic winemakers and viticulturists in Burgundy. In addition to my professional pursuits, I founded a student organization called “Women in Wine at UC Davis.” The group supports and promotes women in Viticulture & Enology and related studies, aiming to foster a community and build a network of women who will empower each other in their education and future careers. In the future, I will continue to support other women in the industry and hopefully increase the number of women-owned wine businesses with my own wine label.
